We got behind

Hi Everybody!!   I 've been making steady progress.  Bethany has much to update on me and will do so soon.  The big news is that I AM WALKING!!!!  YAHOO!!!  I don't have full control of my back end right now and tumble now and then but I can do my business on my own, go up and down the 4 steps outside our house and walk around.  I tend to scuff up my heals a bit and I slide on the floors so my people bought me some dog boots from Ruffwear.  After a trip to  rthe vets to get my nails trimmed I can try them on :D  I go for walks when it's not too cold outside.  I get stiff when it's rainy and cold.  The next plan is to buy me some Yucca.  It's a natural anti-inflammatory and will help keep me in good working condition.  Then it's on to my chiropractor.  My right back hip is really stiff and I think that will help relax things a bit.  I don't need my wheels anymore and my vet wants to buy them from me so that their beagle can get around a little better.  I have to have Bethany call the vet on Monday and get that started!  My people are going to use the money to get my shots updated and look into some hydrotherapy for me.  I'm not a big fan of the water but I LOVE doing things that help me feel better so I think I 'll give it a shot.  Keep your eyes open.  Pictures of my progress to follow :)  Happy Holidays from the miracle dog (that's what the vet calls me)

It's been awhile

So much has happened since we last posted.  Beth has been gone to a conference and hasn't had time to update.  So...  I slide around like nobody's business.  If Beth isn't careful and leaves the door open to carry in groceries I will slip outside and down the steps in 2 seconds flat.  hahahaha

Beth gives me a massage a few times a day and works my legs.  I can almost roll all the way over on my back by myself now.  When I go to drink my water my back end comes up off the floor about 1-2 inches and I'm trying to stand but just don't have the strength yet.  Today when I snuck outside I almost stood up.  I was on my back knuckles stretching as far as I could and then decided to lie down on the grass in the sunshine.

Beth and Jay have raised about 1/4 of the cost of my wheels and my wheels got here last week so I've been out for a spin a few times.  I can go down hill pretty well but have trouble getting back up so I need a little help.

I need to get back to the chiropractor and we'll be making that call this week.  I'm still on my steroid every other day and have a few more days of antibiotics left.  I don't need my muscle relaxers anymore.  WooHoo!

Day by day I think I can do a little more and am determined to walk again.  I've found my voice again and happily protect our house and my people from those crazy people that feel the need to walk by.  LOL  I just figure I 'll let them know I'm still here.

That's it for now.  It's time to snooze!

More progress

So, I went to the vet today and she looked at my sore.  I got some natural ointment for it and should be healing soon.  She confirmed that I have my deep pain response back and said my prognosis looks good :D  She said one of my back legs is already stronger than the other.  Beth and Jay are starting some rehab with me.  It may be a journey but I'm feeling great!

I got hungry last night and slid on my butt from my bedroom to the kitchen using one of my legs as a ski.  I was out there in record time and Beth and Jay said it was THE funniest thing they had seen in a long time.  Now I'm resting on my bed with my doggie paws bandage on.

Ahhhh

One twitch at a time

So, I was Doctor Donna Saturday and Sunday and she made me feel nice and relaxed.  I have my deep pain response back and today I was able to move my leg a little.  I scoot across the floor like nobody's business when it's time to go outside :D

My rear end doesn't look as much like a big bag of saggy taters as it had.  I have a little muscle back there now.  I still get my anti-inflammatory every day and pain med or muscle relaxer (whatever is needed).  Tomorrow I get to skip the Prednisone and ween myself off of it.  Then Jay and Beth are going to put me on some natural anti-inflammatory's to help keep the swelling down.

I want to do more than I am able and I look forward to the day my wheels come so I can go for a walk!

Progress - A Weekend of Hope

So - we're back from the chiropractor AND..... ABBY HAS HER DEEP PAIN RESPONSE BACK and she 's peeing on her own sometimes (on her pad). Very good signs. Doc Donna says she may be 6-12 months rehab in a wheelchair and then she may gain full or close to full function back ♥ ♥ ♥ Way to go Toots! Doc says she thinks it may be a bulging disc now.

That being said, we 've dropped the amount that we need to raise for our sweet girls rehab.   I'm so incredibly overwhelmed with excitement and hope coupled with the reality that she's not there yet.  I'm willing to put in all the effort that is needed to heal her as she has been by my side through some incredibly painful events and has helped me heal.

Here I am after taking my Prednisone.  It zips me up a bit.
Jay got me a raised food and water station.  I can scoot on my rear and feed myself :D

I have a bandage on my leg because I stepped on myself and didn't know.  OOPS! Good thing Beth and Jay know a little first aid.

Although it says $5.00 is the minimum donation, if you go in you can give 1.00 if you so choose.  No minimum.  Help if you can but don't feel obligated.

Her paralysis

Sept 15 our lab suddenly became paralyzed in her back legs.  After bringing her home Sept 22 and having her on antibiotics she has started to make subtle improvements.  We would like to get some wheels and a sling so that Abby can build up strength.  If improvement continues and MRI and possible surgery may be in her future to alleviate any issue that may impede healing (dislocated disc).  We would like to help Abby become a therapy dog to show others how to overcome difficult situations , even if she doesn't get full use of her legs back.  She is a compassionate, intelligent dog whom we feel has a job to do and we would like to help her do it!
